Gene Hackman's character wears a pink cap, similar to Tony Scott's trademark headgear.That color isn't pink, but U.S.M.C. Scarlet, worn by Marine Corps personnel aboard U.S. Navy ships. Gene Hackman's character, Capt. Ramsay, would wear a Navy Blue ball cap, not scarlet. This may have been intentional, to avoid the actor's possible prosecution for the Federal crime of "Impersonating an Officer", as the scarlet cap would be "Out of Uniform" for a Navy man.
