The climax, in which Rey and Kylo Ren are brought before Snoke, parallels both the climax of Return of the Jedi and the beginning of Star Wars: Episodio III - La vendetta dei Sith (2005). In the latter, Kylo Ren's grandfather Anakin Skywalker kills Count Dooku, while in this film, Ren kills Snoke. Dooku and Snoke were played by Christopher Lee and Andy Serkis, who appeared together in the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings films.
