There are several differences between the novel and this series. Some examples: Inspector Japp is still alive; Poirot is assisted by his friend, Hastings; Poirot forms a team, the 'Legion', with the relatives of the victims, to solve the case; Poirot is never described as having a beard but is well-known for his mustache; Franklin attempts suicide before his arrest in the novel; Thora Grey is not involved with Franklin romantically in the novel. Perhaps most significant, this Poirot is given a completely different backstory than any novel or adaptation that has come before.
