Originally, there was to be a follow-up to this film, which would have seen the Enterprise crew crossing over with characters from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) and Star Trek: Voyager (1995), as well as featuring Riker's ship, the U.S.S. Titan and its crew members. Those plans were scrapped due to the film's poor box-office reception.
