The movie isn't a sequel, but a parallel event to Rec (2007) based on two scenes: First, when Emilio Mencheta tells Àlex Monner who was holding the camera (at around 4 mins) about the wound in his hand produced after being bit by a dog that was thought to be dead at a vet clinic (the same dog was first mentioned by the sick girl "Jennifer" in Rec (2007) and then later by the health inspector who said that the dog came back to life after being put to sleep, and started killing the animals). Second, when Diego Martín is in the control room (at around 41 mins) behind him is a live TV coverage of the quarantined apartment building from Rec (2007) and [Rec]² (2009).
