If you look closely, Bender bares a strikingly similar resemblance to the android in the front window of The Androids Dungeon in I Simpson (1989), another show created and produced by Matt Groening (albeit clearly a MUCH earlier rendering without any majorly defining characteristics). Although there are three things similar with the android and Bender; 1) The shape of the head, 2) The seemingly extendable arms and legs, and 3) The double line grid for his teeth. Whether this was intentional, or coincidence, it's a nice nod to the original animators of I Simpson (1989).
