The series premiered the same year as Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993). In that series, Commander Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) takes command of Deep Space 9 and lives on DS9 with his motherless son Jake during the Dominion War. This series follows Dr. Michela Quinn living in the frontier town Colorado Springs with her three adopted children following the American Civil War.
