Static/Virgil Hawkins' best friend, Richie Foley, was an amalgamation of different characters from the comics. Richie was aware of Virgil's secret identity and encouraged him to use his powers to become a superhero in Dakota City. This is in contrast to the comics, where Rick Stone never learned about his best friend's double life; in the comics, it was Virgil's other friend, Frieda Goren.
