The film shares its title with The Avengers - Agenti speciali (1998). However, the 1998 Avengers is based on the classic 1961 spy series, and the lead protagonists John Steed (Ralph Fiennes) and Emma Peel (Uma Thurman) are British Secret Agents. In this movie, The Avengers are team of superheroes, brought together and assembled by Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury, Natasha Romanov, a.k.a. Black Widow, Clint Barton, Phil Coulson, and Maria Hill are Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
