With his Best Actor Oscar win for portraying Freddie Mercury, Rami Malek became the sixth Best Actor winner out of the past seven years to win for portraying a real-life person. He was preceded by Daniel Day-Lewis playing Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln (2012), Matthew McConaughey playing Ron Woodroof in Dallas Buyers Club (2013), Eddie Redmayne playing Stephen Hawking in La teoria del tutto (2014), Leonardo DiCaprio playing Hugh Glass in Revenant - Redivivo (2015) and Gary Oldman playing Winston Churchill in L'ora più buia (2017) with the only exception in that run being Casey Affleck playing the fictional Lee Chandler in Manchester by the Sea (2016).
