Sirius Black's backstory parallels that of Hagrid in the previous film. Hagrid had been wrongfully accused by Voldemort decades before, leading to his expulsion. When he falls accused again, he is taken to Azkaban. Only though Harry, Ron, and Hermione's efforts is he exonerated. Sirius was framed by Peter Pettigrew of telling Voldemort the Potters' hiding place. Harry, Ron, and Hermione learn the truth, although in his case, he is never exonerated before he dies. In Harry Potter e la pietra filosofale (2001), Hagrid arrives on a flying motorcycle that, in the book, he says he borrowed from Sirius. In this film, he escapes on Hagrid's hippogriff.
