Alfonso Cuarón is known for his use of lengthy shots and restlessly moving cameras. Upon accepting the role of director for this movie, he was advised by his close friend, fellow Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, to tone down his more eccentric filmmaking techniques, and instead be faithful to the previous two movies.
