Entertainer Ellen DeGeneres asked Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe) during an interview on Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show (2003) about the idea of doing a "Friends" movie, to which she answered: "Yeah, it would be really fun, but I don't think it's happening. I don't think it's really been a plan." She also asked Courteney Cox about the same thing during another interview, to which she joked: "Has that Sex and the City (2008) movie come out yet? We'll see how that does!"
