Luke's introduction in Return of the Jedi immediately identifies him with "the dark side". His entrance into Jabba's palace (replete with his choking of sentinels) mirrors Vader's first cinematic appearance in A New Hope in 1977. Also, when we first see Luke, he's robed in black much like the Emperor. Empire Strikes had hinted at Luke's subtle proclivity to the dark side in the cave scene on Dagobah. Return of the Jedi explores Luke's light/dark duality even further.
