Michele Brourman and Amanda McBroom both studied Alaskan Native theology. This reading was the inspiration for them to write the film's musical numbers "Muru's Chant" and "Who You Really Are". Aboriginal Canadians would have the same theological beliefs as Alaskan Natives.
