James Marsden said he assumed that his character Criss Chros would only appear in one season, as that had been the pattern with Liz Lemon's relationships up to that point. Much to Marsden's surprise and delight, Robert Carlock contacted him and told him that they wanted Criss to return for season 7 and that they planned to have Criss and Liz get married.
