In Wolverine - L'immortale (2013) (also directed by James Mangold), Logan's travel companion Yukio predicted that Logan would die with his chest ripped open, and his heart in his hand. Although this ultimately didn't happen in The Wolverine (2013), many fans point to the fact that she may have been predicting his death in this movie: Wolverine lying down with his chest ripped open, holding the hand of his daughter (his flesh and blood, and therefore his symbolic "heart"). Mangold later confirmed the notion via Twitter.
