Executive producer Peter Beale and producer and director Fred Zinnemann recruited Swiss Alps alpine shepherds, who were used to extreme cold mountain peak weather and landscape conditions, to assist with the production of this movie, which included preparing daily set locations prior to sunrise and the 7 a.m. arrival of Zinneman.
