Despite being one of Toho's most popular monsters, Mechagodzilla did not appear in the film, having been the focus of the two immediately preceding films: Gojira X Mekagojira (2002) and Gojira tai Mosura tai Mekagojira: Tôkyô S.O.S. (2003).
