When Barbossa and Jack are fighting in the final confrontation, the two lock blades for a moment and Barbossa says, "You're off the edge of the map, Jack. Here, there be monsters." This is a reference to the Latin phrase "hic sunt leones" which translates to "here there be lions" or "monsters". Cartographers, when mapping out regions, would use this phrase to convey that undiscovered areas were possible/likely dangerous. The phrases was also used by Roman soldiers who would shout it to convey that they would not go down without a fight. Both translations apply as Barbossa was both warning Jack that Jack didn't know how to beat someone like him and Barbossa was not going to be defeated easily.
