In 2020, over 30 years after the movie's release, Ron Howard announced that Willow would be finally getting a sequel in the form of a sequel series for Disney+ and that the sequel series will be set many years after the movie. Warwick Davis will return as Willow Ufgood. However, it's uncertain if Val Kilmer will return as Madmartigan due to the actor suffering from throat cancer. It's rumored and speculated Elora Danan will return as an adult and if the 1995 sequel novel "Shadow Moon" by George Lucas and Chris Claremont will be canon or non-canon.
