Tournament semi finalist Darryl Vidal had a lot more involvement in the film than as just a tournament participant. It was Darryl who came up with the crane technique and he can be seen doubling Pat Morita when he is practicing the move on the wooden stumps in the beach scene. He also helped out with much of the choreography, including his own fight scenes. Darryl still runs his own martial arts school to this day.
