Johto was the only region in which Ash did not meet a new friend that would later travel with him. This excludes Brock, who came back after his absence during the Orange League saga, as well as Todd Snap and Ritchie, who both traveled with Ash temporarily. In the Sun & Moon series, Ash's friends are not traveling companions but his classmates, as Ash attends the Pokémon School instead of traveling around the Alola region
