The second game show (after Let's Make a Deal (1963) to have an announcer with on-camera exposure. For instance, Johnny Olson appeared on camera frequently, so at that time it made sense to also have Rod Roddy on camera, whenever they could. When Rod first started, Bob Barker would frequently ask Rod about his weight loss progress, and Rod was successful, although sadly the weight loss in later years was due to illness and not due to dieting. As the show's air time kept decreasing, something had to give, and that meant fewer interactions with Rod. Rod, however, sometimes didn't pay attention and would talk longer than he was supposed to, resulting in Bob having to rush through the rest of the show. At the very end, Rod was having contract issues, wanting more money, so Bob's response was ordering that Rod no longer was shown on camera. At the start of season 32, Rod made his last appearance on camera, after a little over a year in exile looking very thin in a jacket too big for him.
