Howard Shore was hired due to his frequent collaboration with David Cronenberg. Ian Holm had previously worked with Cronenberg on Naked Lunch and Existenz. Viggo Mortensen later became a frequent collaborator of Cronenberg's as well, appearing in A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, and A Dangerous Method.
