As discussed by François Truffaut and Alfred Hitchcock in the former's famous interviews to the latter, every character observed by Jefferies from his window has something to do with marriage and relationships, mirroring Jefferies' conflicting desires about his own relationship with Lisa - from the young and beautiful Miss Torso dealing with different suitors to aging, desperate Miss Lonelyhearts, from the initially happy newlyweds to, famously, Lars Thorwald killing his own wife.
