Before the film's release, there was immense speculation about the film's plot with countless theories about how the film (and Man of Steel) might tie into other DC productions like Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy or the DC Television shows like Arrow. One prominent theory was that Ben Affleck was not playing Bruce Wayne but an older John Blake from 'The Dark Knight Rises' and that Christian Bale was to reprise his role as Batman at the end. Another prominent theory was that Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor was actually the son of Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor who had transplanted his own brain into his son's body.
