Interestingly, in this series none of the monks display the monastic tonsure - the practice (carried out until 1972) of shaving the crown of the head leaving a strip of hair known as the monastic crown. This practice was carried out during the period in which the series is set and its omission from this series makes it difficult to distinguish monk from priest.
