The show's ratings started the downwards descent when an oblivious Peta Wilson made the talk show rounds, awkwardly announcing - on The Rosie Show, Late Night with Connan O'Brien and on Jay Leno's Tonight Show alike - that Nikita would "get a girlfriend...maybe". This was riding the coattails of Ellen's "Puppy" episode and, at the time, was not well received at all by her public. She was appealing to a very minute demographic, and repeatedly disregarding the fact that the majority was not amused by her antics. This, coupled with her stint on Mercy - where she played Ellen Barkin's sociopath love interest with rather graphic scenes - started the dimming of Peta's star in the hearts and minds of LFN's original fans and, thus, the irreparable fall from grace of her Hollywood career had begun. However, unlike Ellen, Peta never recovered her original clout, and eventually had no choice but to leave Hollywood.
