Initially, Rowan Atkinson was hesitant about taking the role of Zazu due to his preference for physical and visual comedy. But "Mr. Bean" co-writer Robin Driscoll urged Atkinson to do it, telling him; "who doesn't want to do Disney?" His portrayal of Zazu is considered the best and is one of Atkinsons greatest performances.
