According to film critic Roger Ebert in his movie review for Il fiume dell'ira (1984), there are ''two crucial scenes'' in Il fiume dell'ira (1984) ''that are astonishingly similar to ones in Country (1984)''. Both also feature farms that are ''next to a river that tends to overflow''. He said that these two pictures and another, Le stagioni del cuore (1984), all had a lot in common, all telling stories about ''...brave, stubborn farmers who are determined not to lose their family land to the bankers.''
