The filmmakers chose to show a postcard version of Paris in the movie, inspired by such films as Madeline - Il diavoletto della scuola (1998), Il palloncino rosso (1956), Jacques Tati's films and Ratatouille (2007). As such the film takes place in modern, but slightly anachronistic Paris.
