The witches in "Bewitched" refer to normal human beings as "mortals". However, "mortal" simply means that a person is eventually subject to death. So if witches aren't mortals, they would have to be immortals, meaning that they would live forever and never die. But the show clearly indicates that (although they apparently have a much longer lifespan than humans) witches DO age over time (Samantha's parents look significantly older than she does) and that they deteriorate with the aging process (as seen in the elderly Aunt Clara character), which would indicate that witches do eventually die, and hence are themselves mortals. Instead of using the word mortal, the show's writers would have been wise to have come up with a unique word that the witches could have used to refer to non-witches (which is what J. K. Rowling did in her Harry Potter novels, where the word "Muggle" is used to designate a non-magical human).
