Almost all of the regular younger members of the cast were played by at least two actors with two exceptions: Christoph Sander always portrayed "Kyle Anderson" and while Kaitlyn Dever (2011-2021) was the only actor to play "Eve," another actor, Krista Marie Yu played a teen-aged exchange student (2018-2021) while Kaitlyn missed a lot of episodes appearing in at least three television shows, including 17 episodes of "Justified" (2011-2015) and eight episodes of "Unbelievable" (2019) as well as making no fewer than 10 movies including "The Front Runner" (2018), "Booksmart" (2019), and "Dear Evan Hanson" (2021). Otherwise, the role of Boyd Baxter was shared by twins Evan and Luke Krotchner (as is common for baby characters due to limitations in the amount of time different aged children may work); then, Boyd was played by Flynn Morrison (2012-2017) followed by Jet Jergensmeyer (2018-2020); Molly Ephraim portrayed the character of "Mandy" (2011-2017) only to have an incredibly different looking Molly McCook take over the role (2018-2021) once the show was picked up by Fox, with a few characters making reference about how much taller she seemed, totally ignoring the fact that it was a completely different actor substituting in the role (not unlike the character of "Darrin" on the television show "Bewitched" that was shared by Dick York and Dick Sargent who did not resemble one another at all); oldest daughter "Kristin" was played by Alexandra Kronsky the initial year only to be replaced by Amanda Fuller for the remaining years of the show; and, Nick Jonas made a single appearance as "Ryan Vogelson" in the primary year with the much taller and fuller-bodied Jordan Masterson inheriting the position for the duration of the show, once again with no one ever commenting over the obvious differences in body type as well as the resonance of their voices.
