After the release of Jurassic World, director Colin Trevorrow expressed a desire to see other directors helm subsequent installments in the planned JW trilogy, stating, "I think this is one of those franchises - like Mission: Impossible and like what they're currently doing with Star Wars - that is going to really benefit from new voices and new points of view." Ironically, both JW and the Star Wars sequel trilogies only had one movie each, in both cases to middle installment, directed by someone other than the person who directed the first installment. Trevorrow (who'd been lined up to direct the third installment in the Star Wars sequel trilogy) returned to direct the final Jurassic World film, while JJ Abrams, who'd directed The Force Awakens, returned to direct The Rise of Skywalker.
