The (fake) opening credits for the movie announce that it is "Day 10,909" for the show. That means that Truman is just 48 days short of his 30th birthday. Two days later (day 10,911), an extra reads a newspaper dated Friday, December 13. This suggests that it is 1996 in Seahaven and therefore, Truman believed his birthday to have been Sunday, January 29, 1967.However, in the final scene when the security guards discuss whether anything else is on, a lunch menu can be seen below the TV and a calendar on the wall to the right; the lunch menu has a date of March 27, 1997, while the calendar possibly shows the month of May 1997. (No month name is shown, but (a) May 1997 began on a Thursday, and (b) someone has blocked off the last week of the month as "VACATION". This would make sense as the last Monday in May is Memorial Day in the United States, and booking vacation time for a week with a federal holiday in it would only use up 4 vacation days instead of five.) Since the guards are obviously not on vacation, the film must be taking place during May 1997, but before Memorial Day; it is reasonable to guess that the days of the month might be the same, as this would minimize the risk of a cast member getting the day wrong (30 day months and February notwithstanding). This suggests that the "in-universe" world of Seahaven is approximately 5 months behind the outside world; this perhaps was done to allow Christof and his team have holiday product placements air far enough in advance to then allow sponsors to create real-world "as-seen-on-The-Truman-Show" campaigns (ie, they could charge a significant sum to a sponsor to have 'Meryl' give Truman one of their products for Christmas). These assumptions would then mean that the events of the film take place between Sunday, May 11, 1997 to Friday, May 16, 1997 in the real world; and would also mean that Truman was actually born on Thursday, June 29, 1967.
