In November 2020, whilst the "Front Lot" (real brick) version of Albert Square, etc was still under construction, aerial photos were released which seemed to show the main featured buildings now had practical floors and interior walls, whereas the original exterior set was literally facades. Combined with some comments about the E21 Project being so expensive, that "they might as well have built the sets for real", this now raises the intriguing theory that the "exterior" set will also be used for the interiors, in effect the entire series shot on location, in real buildings, on the lot, similar to the defunct series "Brookside", which used real houses. This would also free up value Studio space at BBC Elstree, where all but one studio, currently houses all of the Eastenders interior sets, which could now be duplicated in the practical exteriors sets.
