The depiction of the Chamber of Secrets differs in book and film. The former depicts a full-body statue of Salazar Slytherin at the end of the chamber and that pillars with carved snake bodies hold up the chamber's ceiling, while the latter only shows a large statue of Slytherin's head and shoulders with snake heads lining the chamber hall on each side in place of the pillars. Rowling later reveals in the book Harry Potter Page to Screen: The Complete Filmmaking Journey, that the Chamber is flooded centuries after its creation and the water rose to the statue's head rest of the statue. This also explains why the Basilisk was seen emerging from the water near the statue when Harry attempts to wake the nearly-dead Ginny and that the original chamber hall is submerged along with the original pillars wherein the snake head statues act as their remainders.
