Although Law & Order: SVU is a fictional series, much of its inspiration is based on real-life crime cases. For example, "Glasgowman's Wrath" was based on the 2014 "Slenderman Stabbing" case, which occurred in Wisconsin. The series since its first season has made multiple references to real-world current events and controversies as well, including fat shaming, anti-vaxxers, cyberbullying, teen pregnancy pacts and human trafficking, among other subjects. The series often includes disclaimers and also dedications during the ending credits connected to the real-world cases; for instance, an earlier season included statistics on drunk driving and alcohol-related deaths.
