Tina Majorino (Mac) was invited by Rob Thomas to be in the fourth season of the series but opted out as the character didn't have an arc of her own since series-regular characters took a backseat to the over-arching mystery. She felt the 2014 film had left Mac in a satisfying place. Veronica does mention her as being in Istanbul, although it's never explained why she's there.
