Hampton Fancher was approached to write a script for this movie. He agreed to write it, but in a novella format mixed with a screenplay. He wrote the 110-page novella script and then told them to leave him alone after that. According to Michael Green, who wrote the shooting draft, the script was called "Acid Zoo" and featured an ending in which Rick Deckard died.
