The filmmakers appreciated the cooperation of the Turkish authorities, who allowed them to shoot in and around some of Istanbul's most famous sites, including the Topkapi Palace and the crowded streets of the Balat section of the city. "We made a lot of requests of the government, and every request was granted, which was incredible," said director Russell Crowe.
