The novelization by Jeff Rovin includes character details and subplots not in the screenplay and final film. Just a few examples: the reason Rob is late to the ferry is because he was fooling around with a married woman at a motel nearby and had to rush, which is why his fly was unzipped on the ferry; Nikki and Hal give in to their love-hate attraction and actually have sex later on; Muffy has recurring nightmares of someone trying to kill her; and of course: the now-legendary lost third act and alternate ending.
