Ian Abercrombie appeared on an episode of Twin Peaks (1990), and later the movie Inland Empire (2006) for writer, producer, and director David Lynch. Lynch was a candidate to direct Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983), which featured the first in-person appearance by his character, Emperor Palpatine (played by Ian McDiarmid).
