The first half of shooting was plagued by focus problems, many of which are visible in the finished movie. These issues were due to the fact that cinematographer Linus Sandgren chose to shoot with Canon K35 lenses for their vintage look. These lenses were converted from still photography to motion picture use in the 1970s. Because the entire movie was shot on Steadicams, the first assistant cameramen needed to operate remote focus units (specifically the Preston FIZ). The K35s would not respond to the Preston's commands nor return to a prescribed focus mark, leaving the image out of focus. Against Sandgren's wishes, "A" first assistant camera Gregory Irwin switched to using 1970s Zeiss Standard Speed lenses, which were originally made for motion picture use, and there were no more focus problems.
