An alternate, unused draft of the screenplay had Gwen surviving Spider-Man's climactic showdown with the Goblin; she is critically injured, however. In order to save her life, Spider-Man performs an emergency transfusion using his own blood; as a side effect, this act endows her with powers similar to Peter Parker's. The final scene has Gwen (in her "Spider-Gwen" costume), now calling herself the White Widow, joining Spider-Man's fight against the Rhino; this duly impresses her three younger brothers, who happen to be looking on...although they're oblivious to her secret identity.Ultimately, this draft was rewritten to include Gwen's death scene and funeral, but 'Spider-Gwen' would eventually appear in Spider-Man: Un nuovo universo (2018).
