The ending bears a lot of resemblance with that of The Searchers. It begins with shots of a family, outside their house, seeing something off-screen in the sunset. Then two persons who has been long separated finally get together. And the person who made this reunion happen - a man who has proven himself hateful and even villainous throughout the story - takes no credit for this happy occasion, but he returns silently to the open spaces behind him.
