In the UK & Ireland, Comcast's Sky Comedy show the programme. Season 7 was categorised by (rival) cable tv carrier Liberty Media's Virgin Media Ireland, which carries Sky Comedy under an agreement with Sky, under the documentary genre. John Oliver himself has mentioned that some people treat his show as a "news & current affairs" show. Considering the underlying serious investigative work the show does, "Documentary" is appropriate.
