Howard Hughes and Ava Gardner once had a physical fight in the office of Louis B. Mayer. During the brawl, he dislocated her jaw and she hit him over the head with a large glass ashtray, resulting in blood on the wall and furniture. Determined to avoid negative press, Mayer called in his minions to hustle Gardner away and clean up the mess as quickly as possible. Hughes later asked her to marry him.
