One of the main themes of the series is mothers and the relationships they have with their children. Hervnick Z. Snerz blamed his mother for the loss of his childhood pet and never forgave her. Had he realized it was his own fault that his pet ran away, he would've forgiven his mother, learned from his mistakes, and become a better person. Sam was deserted by his mother when he was a little boy. Because of this, he developed a fear of abandonment and grew up to be a con artist who never stayed with anyone for too long. E.B. and Michellee have a strained relationship at the start of the series because of Michellee's overprotective ways and E.B.'s desire for friends and adventure. But over the course of the show, both mother and daughter are able to learn from each other and work together for the greater good. Mr. Jenkins was unwillingly separated from his mother in his youth and longs to be reunited with her in the wild. When Sam learns about this, he has a change of heart and vows to make sure his friend is safely returned home.
